The tourist scene, the safe scene?
Its not safe being anything in Cairo. There are so many filters, cultural, political, religious, everything thing has to be sifted through these filters, censors. Egyptians are such a sensitive people, nothing passes their scrutiny.
Even more so when it comes to sexuality.
Its not only not physically safe being gay, its also emotionally not safe.
Countless people find it much easier to date, meet, have sex, socialize with foreigners, tourists. Those who are passing by for the briefest period of time.
Those who come from a different culture, a culture that allows a space to get rid of all these filters, all these censors. All the history, legacies and moral burdens and dilemmas.
Those who come for the very purpose of "having fun", without the complication of anything else.
No wonder the tourist scene, is the safe scene.
Its safe. No emotional baggage, no cultural baggage, no security hassle. No arrangement could have been more prefect.
They are even financially superior.
Who in their right minds would refuse the benefit of a room service and a free meal/drink?
