Contemporaries III
This is the third entry in the series 'Contemporaries', its a bit overdue, but I am very glad it finally made it to the light!
My guest of honour for this post would need a long and maybe an endless introduction. He is a friend, a kin, a witness, a companion, a dictator, a genius, a kindred spirit, a demon, a child, an accomplice, a tyrant, a ghost, a benefactor, a sister, a collaborator, un ami de moi, he is a complexity yet to be fathomed or understood. He has been in my life longer than I care or want to remember and he has exerted phenomenal influence on it, in every way imaginable.
He very kindly conceded to guest write and as usual surprised me with his contribution.
This is a perfomative piece, meaning to understand it we have to imagine how it would be like performed or staged.
A triptych was a form of iconographic representation in Medieval times for church alters, usually consisting of three panels (hence the term 'tri', as in three in Greek), it endured in some bizarre and unusual ways, like for example Bacon's triptych of the Crucifixion.
In the piece the three panels consist of three texts that if, following a triptych formation should be 'regarded' or 'seen' simultaneously.
I believe its one the most political and critical of all the entries in that series of the community and its conceived notions about sexuality and identity.
It is painful and not for the faint-hearted, but it is illuminating and raises fundamental questions about the politics of the body and its perception and representation. Thus you have been warned, proceed at your own discretion!
